North Sydney Swimming Club will be the representative swimming club connected with North Sydney Olympic Pool. It will give eligible swimmers the opportunity to represent the Club and compete in recognised swimming competitions.
Council has proposed reactivating the former North Sydney Swimming Club to provide a representative pathway for swimmers connected with North Sydney Olympic Pool.
Advice from Swimming NSW and Swimming Metro North East identified reactivation of the former Club as the most efficient pathway for participation in the 2026–27 Swimming NSW season.
The Club will operate as a Council-managed program under North Sydney Council and in connection with North Sydney Olympic Pool.
Council will retain overall management, oversight and accountability. The Service Unit Manager Leisure and Aquatics, or their delegate, will make final decisions on business, governance, finances, compliance, risk, and accountability.
A volunteer Club Board is proposed to operate as an advisory body.
The Board may recommend activities, events and other matters affecting Club members. However, it will not have delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of the Club. Recommendations will be subject to approval by Council’s Service Unit Manager Leisure and Aquatics or their delegate.
The proposed annual membership fee for the 2026–27 swimming season is $260 per member.
The proposed $260 fee includes the applicable registration fees for Swimming NSW and Swimming Australia.
The Council report confirms that the proposed Club membership fee is for approved club activities and includes applicable Swimming NSW and Swimming Australia registration fees. Squad training, pool entry or other North Sydney Olympic Pool programs are not included in the swimming club membership fee.
Participation in the Club, as a Council-managed club program, is open to NSOP squad and Learn to Swim participants, parents or caregivers of participants and community members who accept the objectives, conduct requirements and operating rules of the Club.
Membership is available to:
A person eligible for membership becomes a member of the Club upon registration, and upon having paid all applicable fees and charges.
Membership applications are expected to open after the public exhibition process has concluded and Council has considered the proposed fee.
The Council report identifies reactivating the Club as a pathway to participating in the 2026–27 Swimming NSW season.
A dedicated Council-administered Club fund is proposed. Revenue generated by the Club will be held for approved Club purposes.
The proposed $260 membership fee would be added to the North Sydney Olympic Pool 2026–27 Schedule of Fees and Charges.
Council resolved to publicly exhibit the proposed fee for at least 28 days. Following consultation, Council will receive a further report outlining the feedback received and recommending whether to formally adopt the fee.
This consultation specifically seeks feedback on the proposed $260 annual membership fee.
The Council report on the re-establishment of North Sydney Swimming Club considered the Club's governance and operating arrangements. The report recommended publicly exhibiting the proposed fee as a new fee in the North Sydney Olympic Pool 2026–27 Schedule of Fees and Charges.
Council will review all submissions received during the public exhibition period.
Council will present a further report summarising the feedback and recommending whether to formally adopt or amend the proposed annual membership fee.
Council will receive a further report after the public exhibition period. The final timing will depend on Council’s meeting schedule and the completion of the submissions review.
