As part of a broader walkability and connectivity network linking areas south of the Metro station with Crows Nest Metro, Council is proposing a series of upgrades along key walking routes in Wollstonecraft. These improvements aim to create safer, more direct and more comfortable connections that support people walking to public transport and local destinations.
Council is proposing additional pedestrian crossings in Wollstonecraft along Nicholson Street at the following intersections:
- Nicholson Street and Hume Street
- Nicholson Street and Shirley Street / Sinclair Street
These improvements aim to enhance pedestrian safety and convenience, increase visibility for both drivers and people crossing, and support safer vehicle speeds.
The proposal includes:
- A raised pedestrian crossing with kerb extensions on the north-eastern and south-eastern arms of the Nicholson Street / Hume Street intersection
- Kerb build outs on the north-western and south-western arms of the Nicholson Street / Hume Street intersection
- A raised pedestrian crossing with kerb extensions on the north-western and south-eastern arms of the Nicholson Street / Shirley Street / Sinclair Street intersection.
To maintain clear sightlines for drivers approaching the intersections, some parking changes are required, including approximately five parking spaces removed.
Nicholson Street / Hume Street intersection
- Approximately two parking spaces will be removedon Nicholson Street.
- The centreline on Hume Street will also be realigned to improve driver legibility through the intersection.
Nicholson Street / Shirley Street / Sinclair Street intersection
- Approximately three parking spaces will be removed on Nicholson Street.
The proposal addresses safety concerns identified in Council’s 2019 Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) Plan and aligns with the objectives of Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy.
To provide feedback on the proposal, please complete the form below by Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
Please note that feedback is not a voting form, but will help Council understand whether the proposal can be improved to better meet our safety objectives and encourage more people to walk for daily trips in the neighbourhood. All feedback will be considered; however, individual submissions will not receive a reply. It is expected that a report with the community feedback will be presented to the next available Traffic Committee meeting.
