Consultation on the Vision Statement closes30June2026
North Sydney Council is working with the Sydney Coastal Councils Group (SCCG) and neighbouring councils on the development of the Outer Sydney Harbour Coastal Management Program (CMP). This multi‑year program will guide the long‑term, coordinated management of the harbour foreshore and surrounding coastal environments.
The CMP covers the coastal zone stretching from the confluence of the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers through to the harbour entrance between North and South Head, including Port Jackson and Middle Harbour. It spans seven local government areas and parts of Sydney Harbour National Park and Garigal National Park.
The program will identify coastal risks and opportunities, evaluate management options, and recommend actions for councils and state agencies. Key issues expected to be addressed include:
- Stormwater and sewage pollution
- Litter
- Coastal inundation
- Ageing or degraded seawalls
- Water quality improvement
- Coastal wetland and rainforest management
- Regional consistency in adaptation, emergency management and monitoring
This work builds on stages already completed through the Greater Sydney Harbour CMP and is supported by funding from the NSW Coastal & Estuary Grants Program and partner councils.
Community participation is essential to shaping the future of outer Sydney Harbour. As the program moves forward, there will be opportunities to:
- Share your values and concerns
- Identify local issues and risks
- Comment on draft strategies and actions
North Sydney Council will promote these engagement opportunities as they become available.
