About the proposal
Council is proposing to install a raised pedestrian crossing on Brothers Avenue at the access point to Tunks Park.
The project is included in Council's adopted Delivery Program 2025-2029 and Operational Plan 2026-2027.
The proposed crossing aims to:
- provide a safer and more accessible crossing point for people walking
- improve connections between open space areas within Tunks Park
- increase driver awareness of people crossing the road
- encourage lower vehicle speeds along Brothers Avenue.
This approach is consistent with Council's other pedestrian improvement projects, where raised crossings are used to improve pedestrian safety, walkability and accessibility.
What is being proposed?
The proposal includes:
- a new raised pedestrian crossing on Brothers Avenue at the access point to Tunks Park
- associated signage and line marking
- changes to existing parking restrictions to maintain safe sight lines between people crossing and approaching drivers.
Changes to parking restrictions
To ensure the crossing meets sight distance requirements, approximately 36.6 meters of the existing 'No Parking' restriction on the western side of the crossing would be changed to ''No Stopping'.
This means drivers would no longer be permitted to stop their vehicle within this section of Brothers Avenue.
The change is required to maintain clear sight lines between people using the crossing and approaching drivers.
