Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030

Project Overview

Feedback closes 2 November 2025

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a key tool that guides Council’s work to make North Sydney a more accessible and inclusive community. The current DIAP began in 2022 and will end in 2026. To ensure Council has a new DIAP ready for delivery from 1 July 2026, we are consulting with the community to gather feedback from people with disability, carers and service providers, as well as the general community.

We want to hear from you about your experiences, ideas and priorities help us to remove barriers and open opportunities. While this consultation is centered on people with disability, the whole community is encouraged to participate.

Background

All councils in NSW are required to deliver a Disability Inclusion Action Plan that is reviewed and renewed on a four-year cycle, under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.

The DIAP will outline North Sydney Council’s commitment to ensuring everyone in our community is actively working toward an inclusive and accessible community. A community where the human rights and diversity of all people with disability are recognised, respected and celebrated.

This plan will help ensure our LGA and our organisation are accessible and inclusive, and people with disability are provided with services and facilities that enable them to participate fully in the community.

It focuses on 4 key directions to build a more inclusive and accessible city for everyone:

  1. Develop positive community attitudes and behaviours towards people with disability through community awareness and education.
  2. Create more liveable communities for people with disability through improving the environment and services.
  3. Achieve more meaningful employment for people with disability through inclusive employment practices and education.
  4. Provide more equitable access to mainstream services for people with disability through better systems, processes and access to information

The following accessibility features have been implemented for the community engagement on the North Sydney Council Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 (DIAP). If you have any questions or concerns relating to the accessibility of this engagement or would like more information about the accessibility of the engagement, please contact Council and ask for the Access and Inclusion Coordinator.
