Why are improvements needed?
Community feedback received over a number of years has consistently identified concerns about:
- Vehicle speeding
- Dangerous driving behaviour
- Traffic noise
- Difficulties crossing Blues Point Road safely
- The pedestrian environment within the area
Blues Point Road is the primary traffic corridor through McMahons Point while also providing access to local shops, parks, public transport services and waterfront destinations. The proposed improvements aim to balance these competing demands while creating a safer environment for everyone.
Speed cushions are proposed at several locations along Blues Point Road and Henry Lawson Avenue to encourage lower vehicle speeds and improve driver awareness of pedestrians.
A range of pedestrian infrastructure upgrades are proposed to slow vehicles, provide safer crossing opportunities and improve accessibility. These improvements are proposed for:
New gateway treatments are proposed at key entry points to the McMahons Point peninsula to signal to drivers that they are entering a lower speed environment where people walk. Proposed works include:.png)

To accommodate the proposed changes, approximately 13 on-street parking spaces would be removed along Blues Point Road. The proposed changes are required to provide adequate sight distances, improve pedestrian safety and support the planned streetscape enhancements.
