Consultation closes on 12 May 2026
North Sydney Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to upgrade the existing pedestrian refuge island on Abbott Street near Miller Street, Cammeray to a raised pedestrian crossing.
The proposal aims to improve pedestrian safety and walkability at this location.
About the proposal
Council is proposing to upgrade the existing pedestrian refuge island on Abbott Street near Miller Street to a raised pedestrian crossing.
The proposed crossing was identified in Council’s 2019 Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) Action Plan for Zone 4 (Item T.76) and aligns with the objectives of Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy (2025).
Community feedback during the development of the strategy highlighted the desire for safer, more accessible and sustainable travel options, including improved infrastructure to support walking and active transport.
The proposed upgrade also responds to ongoing pedestrian safety concerns at this intersection, including vehicles turning from Miller Street into Abbott Street at unsafe speeds.
What is being proposed?
The proposed works include:
- A raised pedestrian crossing on Abbott Street near Miller Street
- Kerb extensions on the northern side of Abbott Street
- Kerb extensions on the western side of Miller Street
To maintain clear sightlines for drivers approaching the intersection, approximately one (1) on‑street parking space on the northern side of Abbott Street would be removed.
A concept sketch of the proposed works is provided in the document library on this page.
